Community Engagement Activities: Connecting Universities and Communities
Following staff training in Georgia and Sierra Leone in September and October 2025, partner universities implemented 27 community engagement activities, exceeding the original target of 16 and reaching more than 3000 participants.
Led by trained university staff and involving students, schools, community groups and other stakeholders, the activities addressed a wide range of educational, social, environmental, health, gender and community development needs. They provided opportunities for universities to apply their knowledge and expertise to real community challenges while strengthening collaboration between higher education institutions and society.
The initiatives contributed to the ENHANCE-GSL project’s objectives by raising awareness of community engagement, strengthening institutional capacity and supporting the integration of project results into partner universities. They also laid the foundation for embedding community engagement into university practices and sustaining university–community partnerships beyond the project’s funding period.
The University of Georgia (UG) and Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani University (SSOU) implemented community engagement activities to strengthen cooperation between higher education institutions and society.
